Januardi Logistik: Home is Calling — The Return of a UAE Jeep Gladiator

3 min read

Every great adventure has to end somewhere. And for this rugged Jeep Gladiator Camp Package, that somewhere is home — back in the United Arab Emirates, where its journey first began.

But getting it there? That’s a story worth telling.

It started months ago when this beast of a machine crossed international borders under a Carnet de Passage en Douane — a travel document for vehicles that works almost like a passport. Issued in the UAE, the CPD made one silent promise to every customs authority along the way: “This car is just visiting. It will come back.”

And so the Gladiator roamed. It explored the rich, rugged landscapes of Indonesia — a country of volcanoes, jungle roads, and endless terrain that puts any off-road vehicle to the ultimate test. For a rig built for adventure, Indonesia was the perfect playground.

But all playgrounds close eventually.

With the adventure behind it and 4,000 kilograms of overlanding excellence ready to make the voyage home, the task of shipping the Gladiator from Surabaya back to Jebel Ali landed on Januardi Logistik’s desk. Simple on paper. Complicated in reality.

The First Chapter — Standing Before Bea Cukai

The journey home couldn’t begin without first facing one of Indonesia’s most rigorous gatekeepers — the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, known as Bea Cukai.

This was no mere formality. Officers needed to physically inspect the vehicle, cross-reference every document, and verify that the Gladiator in front of them matched exactly what was declared on the Carnet de Passage. The CPD, the vehicle registration, the owner’s identification — everything had to align perfectly. One discrepancy, one missing stamp, one overlooked detail and the whole process grinds to a halt.

Januardi Logistik prepared meticulously. Every document was in order. Every detail was accounted for.

When the export permit finally came through, it felt like the first breath of open ocean air.

Customs cleared. The Gladiator was one step closer to home.

The Second Chapter — The Carrier Hunt

You would think that finding a ship to carry a car wouldn’t be so complicated. You would be wrong.

Not every shipping line is willing to accept a used personal vehicle — especially one traveling under a CPD. The concerns are real: residual fuel in the tank, lithium batteries, liability exposure, internal compliance policies. Carrier after carrier reviewed the booking request and hesitated.

This is where experience matters. Knowing which carriers have the appetite for this kind of cargo, knowing how to present the shipment correctly, knowing who to call — that knowledge is what separates a failed booking from a confirmed one.

After careful negotiations and persistent follow-ups, Januardi Logistik found the carrier. Pre-approval was secured. The booking was confirmed.

A carrier said yes. The Gladiator had its ride home.

The Third Chapter — Loading Day

This was the moment everything came together.

Rather than depending on third-party facilities, Januardi Logistik brought the Gladiator to Januardi Logistik’s own ramp facility in Surabaya. The container was positioned firmly on chassis, doors wide open, waiting. The Gladiator was carefully driven up the ramp — all 4,000 kilograms of it — and eased into position inside the container with precision and patience.

Then came the securing process. Lashing straps were tightened. Wheel chocks were placed. Every anchor point was checked and double-checked. Nothing about this vehicle was going to shift during the long ocean crossing ahead.

When the container doors finally closed and the seal was applied, there was a quiet satisfaction in the air. The kind that only comes after a complex job is done right.

Sealed and secured. The Gladiator was ready for the ocean.

The Final Voyage

From the bustling port of Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, the container made its way onto the vessel — bound westward across the Indian Ocean, through the Gulf of Aden, and into the warm waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Destination: Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates.

One of the most connected and efficient ports in the world, Jebel Ali would be the Gladiator’s final stop before reuniting with its owner on home soil. The Carnet de Passage had been honored. The promise had been kept.

The Jeep Gladiator came to Indonesia as a visitor. It explored, it adventured, it conquered. And when it was time to go home, Januardi Logistik made sure it got there — safely, legally, and with every detail taken care of.
