Navigating global trade: CargoWise’s latest customs and compliance features

3 min read

In today’s rapidly evolving trade and commercial landscape, maintaining productivity, competitiveness, and a customer-centric approach is paramount. Compliance isn’t just an option – it’s the law. With the potential for hefty fines, penalties, and even legal repercussions, ensuring adherence to regulations is non-negotiable for both individuals and organizations.

As a product-led company, we understand the importance of innovation and continuous improvement. Since 2017, we have been working hard to extend our single global customs solution and it is now available in all major English-speaking economies, the largest European economies, the largest Asian export markets, and the largest LATAM economy, Brazil.

Our goal is to provide coverage to 90 percent of the world’s international manufactured trade flows with this one solution. To achieve this, work continues at pace on the rest of the world, executed by the largest group of product and development professionals in WiseTech, which we continue to invest in and grow.

From enhanced support for T2L declarations in Spain to streamlined compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s recent regulatory updates, here’s a round-up of some of the latest customs and compliance features added to CargoWise.

Enhanced T2L declarations support – SPAIN

We’ve introduced new features in CargoWise to align with the latest EU customs regulations, focusing on T2L declarations in Spain. This update simplifies import and export processes, ensuring compliance while saving you time and resources.

Starting March 1st, 2024, all electronic T2L declarations in Spain must now be submitted in the Union Customs Code (UCC) Proof of Union Status format, mandated by the UCC. This format standardizes customs procedures and regulations across EU member states, facilitating more seamless trade operations within the EU. With automated processes for T2L requests and presentations, CargoWise simplifies these customs procedures, enabling you to focus on driving your business forward.

Streamlined HFC compliance – UNITED STATES

CargoWise now supports the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) Program, a regulatory framework aimed at controlling the import and export of HFCs to reduce their environmental impact.

HFCs are a group of synthetic gases commonly used for cooling and refrigeration. The HFC Program sets specific requirements for the reporting and management of HFC imports and exports to prevent their release into the atmosphere, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

With this update, navigating HFC requirements within CargoWise is easy. Users can quickly access and manage HFC-related data through the intuitive OGA/PGA tab, ensuring more accurate reporting and compliance with EPA regulations. By simplifying the declaration process and providing clear guidelines, CargoWise helps users save time and streamline their compliance efforts.

ADN 2023 regulation compliance – GLOBAL

The ADN is a European agreement concerning the ‘International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways’ and applies to cargo being moved by inland waterways between countries of parties contracting to the standard.

CargoWise now offers enhanced support for handling dangerous goods transported via inland waterways, ensuring compliance with the ADN 2023 regulations. Notable modifications include the addition of new substances and designation changes for polymerizing substances, ensuring users remain up-to-date with regulatory changes. These updates enhance safety and compliance in inland waterway cargo operations, empowering you to navigate hazardous materials transportation with confidence.

Streamlined HS Coding for Air Waybills – UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE)

To comply with the UAE Government’s new Pre-loading Air Cargo Initiative (PLACI), we’ve streamlined Harmonized System (HS) coding for air waybills.

PLACI aims to assess the risk of inbound, outbound, or transiting goods to, from, or via the UAE, emphasizing enhanced security measures for air cargo. Now, users are prompted to input HS Codes for every pack line of shipments destined for the UAE, ensuring compliance with PLACI regulations.

USDA National Organics Program OR2 Support – UNITED STATES

CargoWise now supports the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service’s National Organics Program OR2, simplifying the import certificate process.

This update enables smoother operations and faster processing for organic imports, providing greater convenience and efficiency for users. With straightforward selection options between OR1 and OR2 for tariffs requiring OR2 data, CargoWise enhances your workflow, ensuring compliance with organic import regulations.
